The effects of Emergency Ordinances regarding pardon and criminal code

Background

On January 18th 2017, President Klaus Iohannis went to the Government, without announcing the Prime Minister, in order to lead the Government meeting, in which the ruling coalition PSD-ALDE tried to pass two emergency ordinances (GEOs) regarding pardon and criminal code. Consequently, tens of thousands of people went out in the streets in Bucharest and countrywide in the last two weekends against the controversial draft ordinances on pardon and criminal codes’ amendment.
